INDUSTRY.co.id - Madura - The production of PT Garam (Persero) from land in three districts in Madura Island, East Java, and Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has so far reached 43,000 tons.
"Weather conditions in early September 2017 strongly support the production of salt, and then our salt production continues to improve," said Director of Production of PT Garam Budi Sasongko in Sumenep, Madura, Thursday (7/9/2017).
He estimates that salt production by the end of September 2017 will reach 100,000 tons, if the weather conditions remain normal (no rain). The estimation of the salt production's temporary achievement will make PT Garam able to supply raw materials to its business partners, especially those located outside Java.
"Hopefully the weather conditions in the rest of the dry season or until the second week of December 2017 is normal and then the salt supply to our business partners runs smoothly," said Budi.
According to Budi, it is prioritizing the supply of salt to business partners of PT Garam outside Java Island. The reason is that in Java there are many people salt production centers and then the businessmen and business partners of PT Garam can absorb people's salt during the production of salt (dry).
"While outside of Java, the salt production center is small and entrepreneurs tend to depend on salt supply from PT Garam," he said.
Currently, PT Garam has more than 5,000 hectares of salt spread in three districts in Madura Island, namely Sumenep, Pamekasan and Sampang, and Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
However, the land is functioned to produce about 4,000 hectares of salt and the rest is used for supporting facilities, such as warehouses and access roads to transport salt from the field to the warehouse.
