Minister Airlangga: Indonesia's Manufacturing Industry Increases to World's No. 9 Ranking

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Indonesia succeeded in climbing the rankings to 9th position after previously occupying the 10th position as a country with added value of the largest manufacturing industry. That way, Indonesia's current position is the same as England.
This is based on the assessment of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) based on the increasing number of production and value added manufacturing industry in Indonesia.
"We continue to work hard to get better results, especially in the development of domestic industry," said Minister of Industry (Menperin), Airlangga Hartanto through his written statement in Jakarta (8/9/2017).
He added that currently the industrial sector is the largest contributor to national economic growth. "Therefore, synergy steps with stakeholders to realize the performance of national industry can still grow and increase in the next period," he explained.
Previously, Airlanggga said that the Ministry of Industry is currently running priority programs such as the development of natural resource-based industries through downstream, increasing the competitiveness and productivity of export-oriented labor-intensive industries, as well as spurring the competence of industrial human resources.
"The programs are conducted in order to increase competitiveness and increase productivity, growth of industrial population and the development of industrial zoning outside Java," he said.
In addition, continued Menperin, it is currently also focused on growing industrial population. Until June 2017, the addition of the manufacturing sector reached 572 large and medium-sized industries, both new investment and business expansion.
"Until June 2017, the investment value of the industrial sector for FDI amounts to USD7.06 billion and domestic investment of Rp52.11 trillion, which covers 8,421 projects spread throughout Indonesia," Airlangga said.
Then, for the target of industrial population growth by 2018, large and medium industries are projected to reach 2,047 companies.
"Among others include the agro industry sector, metal industry, machinery, transportation, and electronics, and chemical industry, non-metallic goods, textiles and miscellaneous," he concluded.
