Indonesia Signs Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

INDUSTRY.co.id - New York- Indonesia along with dozens of countries in the world signed an agreement or Treaty on Nuclear Weapons Ban at UN Headquarters in New York, Wednesday (20/09/2017)
Indonesia is represented by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi signing the treaty, which for the first time in the world is legally binding on bans ranging from making to storing nuclear weapons.
"This morning, Indonesia has signed the Nuclear Weapons Treaty," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in New York, as quoted by Antara.
The treaty was adopted on 7 July at the United Nations Conference in New York which won the support of 120 countries from 193 UN member states.
The Nuclear Prohibition Treaty entails a collection of prohibitions to participate in any activities related to nuclear weapons including a prohibition to develop, test, produce, obtain, process, stockpile, use or threaten to use nuclear weapons.
The treaty will come into effect 90 days after it has been signed by at least 50 countries.
Brazilian President Michel Temer was the first to sign the treaty "This treaty is an important step towards an international goal of a world free of nuclear weapons, and this hope will revive the world's efforts to achieve it," UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said when opening the signing ceremony of the treaty.
