For example, she said, major industry players such as Unilever, Indofood, Nestle and others, responded by producing high-vitamin foods, using healthier substances and lowering sugar, cholesterol and fat.
"If large industries can easily adapt to market demand, what about SMEs? The tendency of consumers to buy products with the label 'healthier' becomes a double-edged sword for SME manufacturers," said Stessy.
The reason, she explained, the increase in vitamins and minerals in the food products of SMEs can not be done easily, among others, because business actors sometimes have not been able to determine the nutritional value of the product.
Nevertheless, Stessy points out that there is another way to keep abreast of the trend that is in terms of product quality, that is by keeping the freshness of raw materials and the speed of the product down into the hands of consumers to be eaten.
"Although SMEs should focus on following the current trend in society, the most important thing in maintaining existence in the food industry is the packaging process," she explained and added, the main purpose of packaging is to prevent contamination and food damage from various conditions that affect it.
