INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The trend of marine transportation that has continued to decline in the last four years makes PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) rely on two new segments to maintain income level.

Manager of PR & CSR Pelni Akhmad Sujadi said, in 2012, the number of passengers transported Pelni reached 4.5 million. But that number continues to shed by 3.5 million in 2016. In other words, in four years, the number of Pelni passengers shrunk by one million people.

"Since 2012-2016, the trend is decreasing, let alone the plane route more and more," he said yesterday.

Sujadi said, Pelni will now rely more on the segment of activities on board or on board events and marine tourism packages. Since January 2017, Pelni has been serving 16 activities aboard ships, from New Year to New Year until the deliberation of local government development plan.

In one event, Pelni could attract hundreds of participants, a significant amount to keep the ship's engine alive. "Along with the increase in demand, we also reschedule ship KM Kelud. Going at 8 am, now 23 o'clock in the evening just departed because we are the first event title, and it must have income," he said.

Throughout this year, Pelni is targeting 3.56 million passengers. Pelni is also keen to offer marine tourism packages. Currently, Pelni offers tour packages to five destinations, namely Lembeh Strait in Bitung, Banda Neira in Maluku, Karimun Jawa, Raja Ampat, and Komodo Island. Tour packages offered Pelni duration from two days one night to four days and three nights
