INDUSTRY.co.id - Tangerang - In order to build public awareness on sustainability issues and how the role of the business world to overcome them, Unilever Indonesia organizes Sustainability Day event which aims to promote the way of life and sustainable business practices. The event featuring business figures and NGOs renowned for its sustainability issues as well as to commemorate the 17th anniversary of Yayasan Unilever Indonesia.
President Director of PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk. Hemant Bakshi said that the existence of a business should not make the problem even bigger. Instead, the business world should be part of the solution. Business strategies and activities based on the principle of sustainability are very important in this regard.
"At Unilever, sustainability has been our DNA since it was first established in the 19th century, globally, from the beginning Unilever has a great goal to promote a sustainable or sustainable life through its products and programs."

Meanwhile, Mari Elka Pangestu, President of United for Diversity Foundation and Leadership Council of UN SDSN Southeast Asia and Indonesia explained that the challenges and problems faced in the world can be answered through sustainability-based programs.
"The Sustainable Development Global (SDG) promoted by the UN for Sustainable Development or the Global Goals establishes a vision to end poverty, hunger, inequality and natural resource protection by 2030. This is where business has an important role in shaping and delivering creative solutions from Global Goals, and continue to do so in the delivery of goals while creating progress for the wider community. Sustainability Day is held this time to present figures from inspirational companies and NGOs that have sustainability related initiatives such as UNICEF, IKEA, Burgreens, Pipiltin Cocoa, Waste 4 Change, Heartindo and SkinnyIndonesian24. To hundreds of students, press people, social media activists and other community elements, they share how their stakeholders contribute to address sustainability issues through their business strategies and activities.
"We hope that the 'Sustainability Day' event can move us all to better understand sustainability issues, encourage us to adopt sustainable lifestyles and inspire businesspeople to be a solution to this problem, in order to realize a bright future," concluded Hemant.
