INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to spur small and medium industries (IKM) in applying minimum standards of its products in order to compete in the global market.
Implementation of product standards, especially in packaging and brand standards in Indonesia is still a constraint due to the lack of access to improve the quality of product packaging.
To that end, the Directorate General of SMEs Ministry of Industry encourages the stakeholders and apparatus builders in helping to improve the quality standards of packaging and brands in order to be met by industry players and able to improve product competitiveness.
"Packaging and labelling quality standards are very important, and packaging also has a protective function for packaged products, and serves as a means of promotion and information of those products and increases the selling power and product competitiveness," said Director General of SMEs Ministry of Industry, Gati Wibawaningsih Kemenperin Office, Jakarta, Friday (15/12/2017).
Gati added, now strict packing standards have been applied by developed countries such as, the United States, Europe, Japan, and Korea. The country is the main export destination of Indonesian food products.
"Therefore, the standard must be met to secure the marketing of Indonesian food products there," she explained.
In improving the quality of product packaging, IKM entrepreneurs have several constraints such as the recovery of packaging materials in accordance with their products and the availability of the required packaging.
"This obstacle also occurs because of the minimum order limit on packaging manufacturers, the selection and availability of packaging machines and equipment and the limited information and knowledge of IKM for food processing," said Gati.
In tackling the problem, the government has established 24 packaged houses under the management of the Regional Government. The packaging house is built as an information center and packaging service for IKM to solve packaging problems faced and become a consultation unit on packaging as well as a place of packaging service that can be accessed by IKM actor and can provide packaging for IKM according to need.
To support the development of Rumah Kemasan, IKM Directorate General has prepared the Guideline for Development of Packaging Houses.
"It is hoped that the guidebook will become the basis of reference for the relevant stakeholders and the development apparatus, especially the Housing Management that has been established in serving and helping IKM overcome various packaging problems," she concluded.
