INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) set the target number of workers absorbed in the manufacturing sector in 2018 reached 17.98 million people. Earlier in 2017, the manufacturing industry was able to absorb 17.01 million workers.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Haris Munandar said that the manufacturing industry over the last few years has always absorbed a relatively large workforce.
"It shows that the industrial sector is one of the major contributors to the national economy," said Haris in Jakarta, Monday (8/1/2018).
Based on data from the Ministry of Industry, the industry sector that absorbed the most manpower in 2017 is food and beverage industry around 3.3 million people, the automotive industry about 3 million people, and textile and textile products around 2.73 million people, and furniture industry made from raw wood and rattan national for direct and indirect labor reaches 2.5 million people.
From the data, he continued, the manufacturing sector contributes 14 percent of the total workforce in 2017 of 124.5 million people.
Haris explains, labor is one of the important capital as a driver of national development wheel. Therefore required Human Resources (SDM) competent so that the domestic industry more competitive.
"Employment in the manufacturing sector is almost 60 percent already certified, and we continue to encourage programs to enable HR in the certified manufacturing sector," Haris said.
Previously, Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto revealed, it will continue to encourage domestic industry to innovate so as to compete in the global arena.
"In the medium term, Kemenperin is preparing competent industrial human resources through educational programs that link and match between Vocational High School and industry," added Airlangga.
