INDUSTRY.co.id - Sumenep - The Salt Society (AMG) Sumenep strongly rejects the government's plan to import salt. Because, currently there are still about 15 thousand tons of people's salt in Sumenep 2017 production is still not absorbed.

"Dozens of thousands of tons of residual salt in 2017 stocks are still in the farmers, so actually not the salt stock is not there, but there is no company that made the purchase," said Chairman of the Salt Society Association (AMG) Sumenep, H. Ubaidillah, Saturday (10 / 02/2018).

Therefore, he strongly rejected the government's plan to import 3.7 tons of salt, as it could kill salt farmers. Moreover, the amount was considered too excessive.

"How could a salt self-sufficiency plan in 2020 be realized if the government is doing massive salt imports? This salt farmer is being killed by the policy of importing salt," he said.

He recounted, after the news of salt imports, some salt companies no longer make the purchase of people's salt. Whereas the stock of salt harvest 2017 is still in the farmer's warehouse.

"There is a salt company ready to buy at a price of Rp 2 million per ton, but the warehouse is closed, not making a purchase, nor is this a lie," he said.

According to Ubaid, currently imported salt is suspected to have entered East Java. The amount is about 50 thousand tons, with importers of PT Mitra Tunggal Perkasa.

"The entry of imported salt must have an impact on the price of peasant salt at the farm level, so we hope that the Government can control the policy of importing salt, so as not to harm the farmers," he said. (bj)
