INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Every Street in Jakarta is getting crowded as the number of vehicles keeps increasing every year. The Castrol-Magnatec Stop-Start Index report, released by British Castrol oil company, says drivers in Jakarta make 33,240 stop-starts per year, and drivers in Surabaya do 29,880 stop-starts.

Meanwhile, a study by Boston Consulting Group, in collaboration with Uber, revealed that drivers in Jakarta are on average stuck in traffic for 22 days per year.

Public transportation is the answer to reduce congestion in Jakarta and surrounding cities, considering that Jakarta is now actively doing infrastructure development to create better transportation.

In addition to infrastructure, the government should also pay attention to the transportation system with a focus on the quality of services provided to passengers.

The state-owned railway company, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), is a successful example of how to use technology to create a better transportation experience.

PT KAI has implemented a digital transformation and control system as part of its Commuterline operations, operating in Jakarta and its surroundings. PT KAI cooperates with banks that make it easier for commuters to use electronic money instead of paper tickets.

With only one card, passengers can explore various areas in Jakarta and surrounding areas. PT KAI also rejuvenates the station with better infrastructure and a large parking lot.

The effectiveness of digitalization is also felt for inter-city routes because PT KAI operates a self-service ticket counter where passengers can print tickets using barcode codes. This helps reduce long queues, improves efficiency and operational control systems.

"This transformation has created a better transportation system and provides a better travel experience for passengers. There are many train passengers who park their private vehicles at the station and then travel with commuterline because it is faster and free of traffic jams," explained Adios Purnama, Country Manager of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) Indonesia in Jakarta (27/2/2018).

He added that ALE with its various solutions is ready to answer this challenge and help Indonesia build better transportation systems to reduce traffic congestion.

Furthermore, he said, the implementation of this technology transformation requires a better IT system to support its operations. In addition, Indonesia needs a unique system of digitization and control considering the diverse geographical conditions.

According to him, with ALE transport solutions, operators can provide the best passengers experience, connecting infrastructure to improve communication, security and efficiency, and connect passengers and processes safely for speed, convenience and security including for data security.

The Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar WLAN solution addresses these needs and challenges. The next-generation access points from the above solutions provide enterprise-class connectivity, with operational ease and manageability creating a new paradigm in terms of efficient, secure, easy and affordable wireless networks.

OmniSwitch 6865 Ethernet Access Switch from ALE is an industry-class, layer 3, Gigabit Ethernet switch solution, designed to operate reliably in all types of harsh environments.

The device can run in a wider range of temperatures (-40 to + 75 C), varying power conditions (90 - 260 VAC and 20 - 60 VDC), and can withstand electromagnetic fields, high vibration, dust or dirt and high humidity. The device also features enhanced features for high security, reliability, performance and ease of management.
