INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Pelindo III certifies 500 loading and unloading workers assigned to the Port of Tanjung Perak (Poltekpel) Surabaya and Tanjung Emas Port of Semarang. (Certification Program) is one of its objectives to meet international standards on the number of foreign ships that are docked at ports managed by Pelindo III.

"They need to be handled by certified workers," said Director of Human Capital & GA, Pelindo III, Toto Heli Yanto, in his press conference on Friday (16/3/2018).

He revealed that improving the competence of loading and unloading workers is not only to keep port performance efficient, but the main one is to ensure occupational health and safety (K3) at port.

"K3 is not only for the operational workers in the terminal, but also for service users, ranging from ship crew to the owner of goods," he said.

President Director of PDS Ali Sodikin explained that the certification program started with Basic Safety Training (BST) training by Pelindo III Improvement Center (ICP) managed by its subsidiary in the field of manpower, Pelindo Daya Sejahtera (PDS).

"ICP is working with the Surabaya Shipping Polytechnic for implementation in Surabaya and with Semarang Shipping Polytechnic for Semarang Training and certification is held for 9 days, March 12-21, 2018, and divided into 10 batches Each batch is maximally followed by 50 participants to keep the provision of material remains comprehensive, "he explained.

Ali Sodikin further explained, from a social perspective, training and certification is a form of corporate social responsibility (CSR) that is appropriate to be given to the Manpower Unloading Workers (TKBM) in the port.

"The current business development effort can no longer be separated from the increase in the skill of the workforce. The Improvement Center of Pelindo III is the liaison between conventional loading and unloading workers, to have certification that makes it part of the global logistics business process at the port," he said.

Head of the Surabaya Poltekpel Professional Certification Agency, Dwi Haryanto, who was contacted separately, revealed that, despite being certified by the Ministry of Manpower, the loading and unloading workers of Pelindo III will be re-trained to be certified by Poltekpel Surabaya with standards which in some respects refer to international conventions for training and certification, STCW.
