The overall development at Silangit Airport includes a runway extension from 2400 x 30 meters to 2650 x 45 meters and additional apron capacity from accommodating only 2 Boeing 737 - 500 aircraft to be able to accommodate up to four Boeing 737 - 900 Extended Range aircraft or classmates.
In addition, the other development is the expansion of the terminal from the capacity of 36,500 passengers per year to a capacity of 1 million passengers per year, in addition of course AP II also build facilities and infrastructure of other operational support.
In line with the completion of the development in September, then the same month Silangit Airport will begin to serve international flights in connection with it AP II is intensively conducting some preparations with other agencies, especially Customs, Immigration and Quarantine.
"The development of Silangit Airport is one of them in order to support the increase of air transportation connectivity as proclaimed by the government so that it can support economic growth and tourism which in this case is Lake Toba," he continued.
Garuda Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air and Lion Group have expressed their interest to serve international flights at Silangit Airport.
"The possibility of international routes in Silangit is from and to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which is currently a hub in Asean so as to attract foreign tourists, especially the origin of China," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
The Silangit Airport is the nearest airport to Lake Toba area with distance between 30 minutes to 1 hour.
In line with that, the number of passengers at Silangit Airport increased significantly as in Semester I / 2017 which reached 124,701 passengers or up to 300 percent compared to the same period the previous year as many as 31,054 passengers.
By the end of this year, due to the completion of the development and opening of new routes, it is estimated that the movement of passengers at Silangit Airport can reach 300 thousand passengers.
