Indonesia Elected UNSC's Non-Permanent Member

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta- Indonesia is elected a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2019-2020 through voting or voting at the UN General Assembly.
"Alhamdulillah in the General Assembly of the United Nations, Indonesia was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council representing the Asia-Pacific region to replace Kazakhstan whose membership period will end in late 2018," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi via a live video conference followed by Antara in Jakarta , Friday (8/6/2018)
Indonesia won the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) seats for the Asia-Pacific region through a process of elections at the UN General Assembly at UN Headquarters in New York, USA on Friday (8/6) morning local time.
Once elected, Indonesia will officially fill the UNSC seat is counted January 1, 2019.
"Through the closed electoral process at the UN General Assembly, Indonesia won 144 votes," said Foreign Minister Retno.
Indonesia was elected to become a non-permanent member of the UNSC in the period 2019-2020 by defeating the Maldives with the acquisition of 144 votes from the 190 UN member states voting in the election at the UN Headquarters. While the Maldives only get 46 votes.
Indonesia was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2019-2020 with four other UN member states, namely South Africa for the African region group, the Dominican Republic for Latin America and the Caribbean and Germany and Belgium for the West European region and other countries.
Indonesia was previously a Non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council in the period 1973-1974, 1995-1996 and 2007-2008. Indonesia's campaign for the UN Security Council has begun since its launch in 2016 in New York and has always carried Indonesia's priority to create a global peace and stability ecosystem, ensuring synergies between perpetuating peace and sustainable development agenda, and combating terrorism, radicalism and extremism.
