Palestine is Indonesia Main Attention When Become UNSC

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta- The Indonesian government declares that the Palestinian issue will continue to gain attention in the UN as long as Indonesia becomes a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2019-2020.
"The issue of Palestine will be of concern to Indonesia as long as Indonesia becomes a member of the UN Security Council," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi through a live video conference followed by Antara in Jakarta on Friday (8/6/2018)
The statement was made by the Indonesian Foreign Minister after attending the UN General Assembly's permanent members meeting in the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States, on Friday (8/6) morning local time).
Indonesia was elected a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the period 2019-2020 through voting or voting in the UN General Assembly.
"Alhamdulillah in the General Assembly of the United Nations, Indonesia was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council representing the Asia-Pacific region in place of Kazakhstan whose membership period will expire at the end of 2018," Foreign Minister Retno said.
Indonesia was elected to become a non-permanent member of the UNSC in the period 2019-2020 by defeating the Maldives by obtaining 144 votes from 190 UN member states voting in the UN General Assembly vote. While the Maldives only get 46 votes.
Indonesia was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2019-2020 with four other UN member states, namely South Africa for the African region group, the Dominican Republic for Latin America and the Caribbean and Germany and Belgium for the West European region and other countries.
In his statement, the Foreign Minister also invited other UNSC members to work better in facing various world challenges.
"Indonesia will also invite other UNSC members to work more efficiently, effectively and accountably to jointly face global challenges," Foreign Minister Retno said.
Once elected, Indonesia will officially fill the UNSC seat is counted January 1, 2019.
Indonesia had previously been a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the period 1973-1974, 1995-1996 and 2007-2008
