INDUSTRY.co.id - Scotland - Founder and Principal Commissioner of Jababeka Group S.D. Darmono earned a Doctorate Honoris Causa (H.C) or an honorary degree from Glasgow University of Scotland, at Bute Hall, Wednesday (13/6/2018).
Quoted from presidentpos, Darmono became the only Indonesian of 10 people who earned honors at the event.
Embracement of the title was given by Professor Sir Kenneth Calman, Rector of the University of Glasgow right on the anniversary of the University Foundation which has been established since 1451.
"We respect and acknowledge individuals who have achieved tremendous success rates and who have contributed greatly to their field, not only in Scotland but also throughout the UK and even the world," said Professor Anton Muscatelli, Principal and Vice Rector of Glasgow University .
"We are happy to celebrate the success of all our graduates and I look forward to discussing with them and working closely with them in the future," he added.
S.D. Darmono is an entrepreneur who has contributed to building a city in Cikarang with an area of 5,600 hectares which brings 1,600 investors from 30 countries, and employs 1 million people.
In addition to Cikarang, This Jababeka’s Boss also built cities in Kendal, Tanjung Lesung and Morotai. The achievement is also appreciated by President Jokowi who also inaugurated the KEK Tanjung Lesung and Kendal Industrial Estate. The government also helped establish Tanjung Lesung and Morotai as part of 10 "Bali Baru" tourist destinations.
The award was also awarded to nine others such as Andrew Neil (broadcaster and journalist), Susan Calman (broadcaster and comedian), Dave Anderson (theater director), Sandy Brindley (Chief Executive and Rape Crisis Scotland National Coordinator), Pat Cassidy ( Govan Workspace), Professor David Galloway (President of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons), Sir Harpal S Kumar (Chief Executive Officer, Cancer Research UK), Karine Polwart (songwriter and composer), and Dr. Lena Wilson CBE (former Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise).
