INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, a provider of on-demand services based on Go-Jek applications officially expanded by establishing companies locally in Vietnam and Thailand.
This expansion is the first wave of Go-Jek international expansion into Southeast Asian countries.
CEO of Go-Jek Nadiem Makarim said the company will be managed by local management team and founder, supported by knowledge, expertise, technology and investment from Go-Jek.
According to Nadiem, it introduced Go-Viet in Vietnam and will enter a July beta testing phase that will involve a number of drivers and consumers, before launching fully in the coming months.
While GET, the brand introduced in Thailand, will be launched shortly thereafter along with ongoing consultations with various local stakeholders including governments, driver partners, and consumers.
"The two companies in the early stages will provide ride-hailing and logistics services, which will then be followed by an inter-food messaging service and electronic payment," Nadiem said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday (25/6/2018).
Meanwhile, Go-Viet Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Nguyen Vu Duc said Go-Jek is a pioneering technology company that has an ecosystem with 18 different services, and is supported by world-class strategic investors.
"Go-Jek's support is ideal for us, not only because of the technology and skill in the business, but also because we share the same principle, the desire to bring positive impacts to society through improving lives and incomes and fostering micro-business, small and medium enterprises, "he said.
Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder GET Pinya Nittayakasetwat said Go-Jek succeeded in becoming the first unicorn company to grow in Indonesia because it is able to use technology as a solution to the toughest challenges in the country.
"The GET team is inspired by the way companies twist everyday problems into business opportunities while simultaneously improving the quality of life of millions of people. We are moving with the same philosophy, and we are eager to bring positive impact to Thai society, "he said.
This international expansion was undertaken with months of planning after the last Go-Jek investment funding round that brought investment from prestigious investors such as Astra International, Warburg Pincus, KKR, Meituan, Tencent, Google, Temasek, and others.
Of the investment gained, a $ 500 million fund is allocated for international expansion in line with the company's strategy of expanding its wings in Southeast Asia. Go-Jek also plans to launch its operations in Singapore and the Philippines.
