INDUSTRY.co.id - Sumenep - PT Garam targets to produce 225,000 tons of salt until the third week of December 2017. Production Director of PT Garam, Budi Sasongko, said the good weather of recent days could support the increase of salt production.

"In the last ten days, the weather is good enough for salt farmers, if we can survive like this, then until the third week of December, we can produce at least 225,000 tons of salt," Budi said on Friday (18/08/2017).

Initially PT Garam is targeting production in 2017 of 350 thousand tons from 5,600 hectares of land owned by this state-owned salt. However, PT Garam was forced to correct its production target due to unfavorable weather factors.

"We have to correct the original production target of 350,000 tons, to 225 thousand tons due to weather factor, which is an anomalous weather that is very influential on the production of salt," he said.

Currently, salt plantation owned by PT Garam is located in Three Regencies in Madura, namely Sumenep, Pamekasan, and Sampang covering 5,200 hectares, and 400 hectares in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"Yes hopefully the weather will continue to be friendly, so our production target is fulfilled, but if it is still cloudy like in Sumenep today, it will definitely disrupt production," said Budi.

He explained, for the salt field in the region of Madura, the current amount of salt production about 13 thousand tons. While in Kupang, from the production target of 20 thousand tons, the current production is about 1,500 tons.

"The production numbers continue to run," hopefully the weather will not change until the end of production in the third week of December, "he said.
