INDUSTRY.co.id - Padang - Pers is an ethical institution, so the press person must uphold ethics. This was conveyed by former Chairman of the Press Council, Professor Bagir Manan, in front of hundreds of students and students in the Digital Citizenship Literacy Forum for Millennium Generation in the framework of the National Press Day (HPN) 2018, held at Basco Hotel, Padang City, Wednesday (7/2/2018).
Professor Bagir said if the press is violating ethics then he has betrayed the press. "The press must uphold ethics, it must prioritize the public interest, for instance in 2014 Serial elections, it is the public interest that must be protected," he said.
The press must also maintain the integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia by contributing to realize social justice for all the people of Indonesia. "I think that's the real press mission," he said.
In addition, Professor Bagir also highlighted the outbreak of hoax phenomenon in Indonesia. According to him, there are a number of psychological factors that cause people to spread the hoax.
"The cause is the psychological situation factor, for example, a person who is in turmoil, between idealism and reality, solely because of the turmoil of the kejiwan," he said.
Furthermore, hoaxes are for fun only and hoax because of encouragement and ideological attitude because they feel teraleniasi and feel helpless.
"The souls of people who pass through hoaxes, there are some, such as not being able to compete fairly, openly, and unable to assume responsibility," he explained.
Professor Bagir hopes that all the students and students present in this literacy forum can become The Rising Intellectual. Intellectuals always put forward intellectual and able to fight the hoax.
"With the ability to have competence, have an honest attitude, good attitude and it is possible only if we have quality," added the former Chairman of this Constitutional Court.
