Festival Dandang Sewu Banyuwangi Lift Up Local Potential

INDUSTRY.co.id -Banyuwangi - Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas said the Dandang Sewu Festival (a thousand dandang) was held in Kalibaru Village, Banyuwangi District, East Java to promote the potential of the local village as a crafter of cooking utensils.
"This is the first time the Dandang Sewu Festival has been held and the district government supports the existence of self-sufficient and empowered villages because almost all of its citizens become craftsmen of kitchen utensils and that is interesting," said Anas on the sidelines of Dandang Sewu Festival in Kalibaru Wetan Village , Kalibaru Sub-district, Banyuwangi Regency, Friday (4/8/2017)
The tourism agenda of Banyuwangi Festival (B-Fest) again presents new activities that are lifted from the potential of the community by the name of Dandang Sewu Festival by displaying various cooking utensils into the main products produced by residents from dandang, pots, woks, serving hoods, glasses, sutil, cake.
"Kalibaru Sub-district has been a center for aluminum and stainless steel cookware handicrafts in Banyuwangi, so we will encourage their products to get a wider market by introducing their products through this kind of festival," he said.
Since the 1970s, Sayangan Village is known as home for Dandang craftsman, from the original there are only 2 craftsmen, now there are 34 craftsmen with a variety of kitchen equipment.
The quality is good, make a typical product Sayangan is much in demand by the community, has even penetrated to various regions in Indonesia including Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Irianjaya.
"We will continue to hold activities to raise the potential of villages in Banyuwangi to improve competitiveness and promote local people," said Banyuwangi Regent two periods.
The festival showcased a row of dozens of sellers with a variety of cooking utensils and shops that are on the edge of the national road into a storefront and the location of buying and selling various cookware craftsmen.
One of the shop owners who are also craftsmen of cooking equipment in Kalibaru Subdistrict, Mulisab said he is a third generation that makes at the same time selling various cooking utensils.
The father family of two children has been in the profession for more than 60 years. In addition to selling his products in Banyuwangi and the surrounding area, he also sent his products to several areas outside Java.
"Alhamdulillah all the needs are met from making and selling cooking utensils because I make cookware from generation to generation from my grandfather," he said.
Thousands of people meet the area of Dandang Sewu Festival which takes place in the rice field of Tegal Pakis or commonly known as Kampung Sayangan, even they are very enthusiastic to follow the festival that raises the potential of the village, as well as become a source of local livelihood with craft cooking utensils.
