This year marked the 10th year of Maybank Marathon since first introduced in 2012 in Bali. With steadfast and persistence in holding a world-class run competition for the past ten years, Maybank Marathon attained a number of achievements, one of them is the recognition from World Athletics, as an elite road race marathon label.
Maybank Marathon is currently recognised as the only run challenge event in Indonesia to hold an international label by an international athletics federation.
Despite the current Covid-19 pandemic cases, which have decreased gradually, along with the easing of Social Community Activity Restrictions ("PPKM") level in several regions across Indonesia, Maybank Marathon 2021 will still be held through its virtual event, enabling more domestic and international runners to participate in the race from various locations.
Maybank Indonesia’s President Director Taswin Zakaria, said, "This year, Maybank Marathon reached its 10th year, and to fulfill the desires of runners to compete, we are organising a run challenge through our virtual event Maybank Marathon Anywhere 2021. Highlighting the spirit of ‘one decade of pushing the limits’ speaks about our consistent efforts for the last ten years in organising prominent running events. When the pandemic hit the entire running event industry, Maybank Marathon still held a run challenge series through adoptions of digital technology, in which we have gained positive responses and high enthusiasm from thousands of runners, wherever they are."
For this year, Maybank Marathon Anywhere 2021 runners from all categories must complete the running challenge in one time period (or "single continuous run"), on Saturday 11 December 2021 or Sunday, 12 December 2021.
Moreover, participants of Maybank Marathon Anywhere 2021 must connect their tracking device to 99 Virtual Race applications to record and check their running challenge, as well as the final results after the challenge period.
The tracking devices which are compatible with 99 Virtual Race applications are Strava and Garmin. 99 Virtual Race application is available for download from App Store or Playstore.
As part of Maybank Marathon 10th anniversary, participants of Maybank Marathon Anywhere 2021, who completes their run challenge and purchase 10th Anniversary themed merchandise will receive an early access registration for the upcoming Maybank Marathon 2022 in Bali. In addition, ten male and ten female best finishers from each category (10K, 21K and 42K) will get a free run slot and accommodation for the Maybank Marathon 2022 in Bali.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Maybank Marathon launched a limited edition running jersey and finisher medals. These items are available for order (during registration) through the 99 Virtual Race App. Runners will receive a special price for purchase with Maybank Credit Card, or through Maybank Virtual Account.
“To minimise exposure to Covid-19, we urge all runners to comply with the applicable health protocols when participating in the run challenge. We hope Maybank Marathon will continue to inspire and motivate runners and the general public for a healthy lifestyle through regular and sound exercise,” Taswin concludes.
