INDUSTRY.co.id - Karawang - Candidate vice Governor of West Java Dedi Mulyadi will optimize agricultural insurance program of farmers who fail to harvest if elected at 2018 Governor Election.
"Agricultural insurance program has become a priority scale, especially to target farmers in flood-prone areas and drought," said Dedi on the sidelines of a visit in the village of Srimahi, North Tambun District, Bekasi Regency, Tuesday (27/2/2018).
Technically, he said, West Java Provincial Government can cooperate with government appointed institutions. It is considered important to reduce losses suffered by farmers due to crop failure.
"This program will be able to prevent farmers from losses due to crop failure, so they do not have to worry and trouble when exposed to floods or pest attacks," he said.
If there is no active assistance from the government, Dedi assumes that the poverty alleviation program will be affected, as farmers in rice barns are finding it difficult to obtain premium rice.
"If the crop fails the farmers continue to run out of capital, then it can be covered by this insurance program. The cost of their production to farm can instead," he said.
