Kertajati Majalengka Airport Operates May 24, 2018

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta- Kertajati Airport in Majalengka, West Java, officially began operating on Thursday, May 24, 2018, beginning with the first landings from Jakarta and Bandung.

"There will be 'historical landing' flown by Garuda Indonesia," said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi at the Coordinating Ministry for Home Affairs, Tuesday (22/5/2018)

Budi said internationally, on May 24, 2018 Kertajati Airport can already function. There is also technically, the airport is ready to operate even before that date.

"Today is also ready, but internationally May 24 was declared allowed for flights," he said.

On the same occasion, Director of Operations of Indonesian Air Navigation Service Provider (AirNav Indonesia) Wisnu Darjono confirmed that Kertajati Airport is ready to be operated on May 24, 2018 starting at 00.00.

On the official operational day there will be two flights back and forth between Bandung and Kertajati. While Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air will be the airline that landed at the airport.

"From May 24th it will be open for operation, we have published internationally, so the date of May 24th at 00:00 is operational," he said.

Kertajati Airport will be the embarkation of Hajj between following the carrying capacity of the runway that has not been able to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft.

Currently, the new runway length of 2,500 meters so it can not be accommodated wide-bodied aircraft such as Boeing 777 commonly used for haj flight.

The runway length will be expanded to 3,000 meters by July and targeted for completion within six months.

Later Garuda Indonesia will transport pilgrims with Airbus 330 to Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Then, pilgrims will move to a Saudi Airlines plane that gets the territory's congregation, to fly directly to Saudi Arabia.
