INDUSTRY.co.id - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (11/05/2021) stated that Israel’s forced expulsion of the Palestinian people from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in the occupied East Jerusalem and the use of force against Palestinian civilians in the Al-Aqsa Mosque must not be ignored.
According to the President, Indonesia condemns such action and urges the United Nations Security Council to take concrete measures on the repeated violations committed by Israel, adding that Indonesia will continue to support the struggle of the Palestinian people.
In addition, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L. P. Marsudi Wednesday (12/05/2021) stated that Indonesia also condemns the widespread conflict and use of force committed by Israel, especially in Gaza which has caused dozens of innocent civilian casualties.
Retno underscored that Indonesia continues to do its best on all fronts to support Palestinians, one of which is through the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP).
For the record, the CEIRPP is a committee mandated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1975 to promote the rights of the Palestinian people, support the peace process, and to mobilize assistance to the Palestinian people. Indonesia currently is one of the Vice-Chairs of the committee.
Not only at the United Nations, according to the Minister, Indonesia has also proposed that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is able to hold a special meeting to discuss this current issue immediately.
“The rights of the Palestinian people have been undermined by Israel for too long. Indonesia will continue to stand with the Palestinian people to fight for their rights,” she remarked.
