INDUSTRY.co.id - The Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 (P4G) initiatives must be carried out to achieve sustainable, inclusive and resilient development amid the threat of climate change and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has stated.

“The P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030) initiatives cannot be carried out with “business as usual” approach. We must take extraordinary measures. Partnership between stakeholders is the key to ensuring that economic activity, production and consumption are carried out in a sustainable manner,” the President said in his remarks delivered through video conference during the P4G Summit held in South Korea, Sunday (30/05).

President Jokowi said that fundamental measures to ensure the achievement of green development at the global level must be taken, including by creating an enabling environment that encourages synergy between investment and job creation with green development.

“Indonesia has implemented a low-carbon development plan which is an integral part of the national mid-term development plan. Indonesia has also issued Job Creation Law as part of Indonesia’s commitment to ensure the economic and social progress of the community does not harm the environment,” the President explained.

The President stated that encouraging innovation in mobilizing supporting resources for the implementation of green development is needed, and the availability of financial support and technology transfer is the key to success for green development for carbon neutrality. To that end, Indonesia is open to investment and technology transfer.

“Indonesia is developing the largest green industrial area in the world, in North Kalimantan, that has great potential in the development of renewable energy. Indonesia has a vision to build a carbon market and will become the owner of the largest carbon stock in the world,” he added.

The President went on to say that every country needs to strengthen concrete and sustainable cooperation that can be implemented immediately.

According to the President, protectionism under the guise of environmental issues must be avoided. Environmental parameters must be clear, and be carried out in a fair and transparent manner, the President stated.

“Cooperation and joint efforts to solve common problems are fundamental conditions for the success of a green economy, especially when the world is currently recovering from a pandemic. And I would like to emphasize that Indonesia is highly committed to working together with the world to create a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient life,” he concluded.
