INDUSTRY.co.id - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo reasserted that the violence in Myanmar should be stopped immediately.
According to him, the current situation in Myanmar will not benefit for any party and only makes the people become victims.
“The people will become victims since this condition will not make anyone wins. I invite all of us to sit together, create a space for dialogue to find common solution,” said President Jokowi in a press statement at the Meruorah Hotel, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, Monday (05/08).
The President emphasized that Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN this year will continue to push for the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, one of which is regarding humanitarian assistance.
He stressed that various efforts had been measured and through the chairmanship in ASEAN Indonesia is able to facilitate The ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Center). After a long delay due to access problems, the President added that the joint needs assessment was able to be completed.
“This problem is due to the access. Yesterday, the AHA Center accompanied by the ASEAN monitoring team will hand over humanitarian aid but there was a shooting incident in the middle of the trip,” he said.
Previously, in her press statement in Jakarta on Friday (05/05), Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi explained that there were two stages of humanitarian assistance for Myanmar. The first stage is related to life saving, which has been completed because it is related to assistance in handling COVID-19. The second stage is life sustaining.
“This second phase had experienced obstacles due to the lack of access to the AHA Center for reaching people in need, especially in areas outside the territory of the Myanmar military,” said Retno.
