INDUSTRY.co.id - Tanjungpinang - Cigarette entrepreneur, Arifin, who is also the President Commissioner of PT Megatama Batu Karang Indonesia to build the first cigarette factory in Tanjungpinang City, the capital of Riau Islands Province.
The construction of a cigarette factory was marked by the placement of the first stone by the Governor of Riau Islands Nurdin Basirun in the Free Trade Zone in Dompak, Tanjungpinang, Thursday.
President Director of PT Megatama Batu Karang Indonesia, Sunadi said, the investment for the construction of the cigarette factory was worth Rp250 billion for the initial stage.
"Investment will be increased in the second year," he said.
Sunadi revealed that the number of workers needed is 250 people. The number of workers is certainly needed more if this company develops.
Workers recruited are from local residents.
"We would like to thank all those who have helped the construction of this cigarette factory," he said.
Sunadi said that the land used to build this cigarette factory is 16 hectares. The land was purchased from the community.
"The company's target is that most of the cigarettes produced by this company will be exported to Malaysia," he said.
The Head of the Board of Exploitation of the Bintan Region Tanjungpinang Free Trade Zone and Free Port, Den Yealta said the planned construction of a cigarette factory in the free economic zone was planned about 2 years ago.
"We would like to thank the government, the public and the mass media for supporting investment in Tanjungpinang," he said.
Den Yealta said that cigarettes produced by the company were more sold to Malaysia, therefore export ports and roads were needed.
"We expect support from the government so that investment can grow rapidly in a free area," he said.
He is optimistic that this cigarette investment is a "lure" for other investors to invest in Dompak. This year, he said, one salt businessman would build a salt company in Dompak. The company has conducted research on the quality of salt around Dompak.
"There are also companies that provide floating aircraft parts that plan to invest in a free area in Tanjungpinang," he said.
Riau Islands Governor Nurdin Basirun asked cigarette companies to help local residents. The company should recruit Tanjungpinang residents as workers.
"We are willing to train them. If there are other problems, we are willing to help," he said. (Ant)
