INDUSTRY.co.id - Surabaya - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III posted a positive performance during August 2018 from both operational and financial aspects, as well as experiencing growth in the operational performance of loading and unloading of goods.
"General cargo loading and unloading was recorded at an increase of up to 28 percent where as of August 2018 it had reached 2 million cubic meters, while last year it was 1.5 million cubic meters. From the tonnage side it increased from 29 million tons to 32 million tons," said Pelindo III CEO Ari Askhara in Surabaya, Monday (09/10/2018)
In the press release, Ari said, container flows increased 7 percent from 2017 with a total of 3.4 million TEUs, due to an increase in domestic container flows at the Diamond Terminal and Teluk Lamong Terminal.
"This shows that the economic condition of the community has not experienced a decline as what is feared by some circles," he said.
Improved operational performance, said Ari, also improved the company's financial performance, as in terms of revenue from container services which increased 14 percent and general cargo services compared to the previous year (as of August 2017) increased by 27 percent.
"Even though the pressure on the rupiah exchange rate experienced a decline against the US dollar and high world oil prices, up to August Pelindo III still managed to record net profit after tax of Rp1.97 trillion," he said.
That number increased 39 percent from the same period last year (year on year) of Rp1.41 trillion.
In addition, the financial performance of a number of Pelindo III subsidiaries also increased, this was influenced by the improving number of subsidiaries, as well as the efforts to diversify the business and innovations that Pelindo III continued to develop.
"The contribution of subsidiaries reaches up to 50 percent of corporate profit performance. This shows the success of Pelindo III in transforming its human resources, operations and business diversification through internal synergy as well as fellow SOEs as well as with the private sector in the increasingly solid port sector," said Ari.
"In addition, success also cannot be separated from the support of the Ministry of SOEs and the Ministry of Transportation, which supports a lot in the speed of decision making in order to smooth operational activities in the field," he said.
Pelindo III, he said, will continue to work as a form of BUMN present to the State by developing facilities and services related to tourism such as the development of Gilimas Port in Lombok, Badas in Sumbawa Besar, Waingapu, Banyuwangi, and Benoa, Bali
