INDUSTRY.co.id - Indonesia is committed to upholding the principle of collaboration and cooperation with all parties during the 2023 ASEAN chairmanship, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“Indonesia’s principle in the ASEAN chairmanship is collaboration and cooperation with all parties. ASEAN will not become a proxy for any party or any country,” the President said after inspecting the preparation for the arrival of ASEAN leaders at Komodo International Airport, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara province, Sunday (05/07).

The President said that ASEAN will remain open to work with any country. He also highlighted the principle of dialogue in resolving every problem in ASEAN, including the issue of Myanmar which will also be one of the points discussed by ASEAN leaders at the 42nd Summit.

“Yes, that will be specifically discussed. Our parameter for Myanmar is a five-point consensus. We must carry out dialogue. I am of the view that sanctions are not part of the solution,” he said.

The President also expressed hope that the conflict in Myanmar can be resolved soon.

“First, the violence must stop immediately. Second, humanitarian aid must be provided for the people of Myanmar. Third, the dialogue. It is important that Myanmar plays an active role in the dialogue we are conducting,” he remarked.
