INDUSTRY co.id - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Otto Iskandar Dinata (Otista) Bridge, Bogor City, West Java (West Java), Tuesday (19/12/2023).
" By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim , this morning I inaugurated the Otto Iskandar Dinata Bridge in Bogor City," said the President.
The President said that the Otista Bridge widening project was an effort to overcome traffic jams caused by the narrowing of the road.
"The Otista Bridge is one of the problems in the city of Bogor, because after [the road] widened, it narrowed on this bridge," said the President in his press statement after the inauguration.
According to the President, the bridge, which was built with a budget of around IDR 50 billion, currently has better construction than before.
"If we look at it now, I think it's more than enough," he said.
The President revealed that during construction, the unique characteristics of the bridge, which has existed since 1920, were maintained in order to maintain cultural heritage.
"I was still guarding it and went downstairs to see that the curved construction had not been removed," he said.
In line with President Jokowi, Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto said that the widening of the Otista Bridge aims to reduce congestion due to narrowing of the road on the bridge.
" In 2015, we conducted a study and a one-way system policy emerged. A one-way system has been implemented around the Palace, reducing traffic jams, but it turns out that this point is the main bottleneck, sir, the main bottleneck  in the city center. "Because of that, residents asked the city government to expand this," said Bima.
Bima also hopes that the bridge, which was built over 7.5 months, can improve traffic flow and improve the economy of local residents.
"Hopefully the smooth running of this bridge will open up wider fortunes for all residents," said Bima.
Also accompanying the President in this activity were, among others, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ad Interim Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Acting. West Java Governor Bey Machmudin, and Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto. (FID/TGH/UN)
