VP Calls for Public Collaboration to Combat Drugs Abuse

INDUSTRY.co.id - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has urged the nation to join hands and participate in a joint effort to eradicate drug abuse.
“The active involvement and participation of everyone is very much needed in our effort to prevent drug abuse and trafficking,” said Ma’ruf during the opening of the national webinar “The Threat of Drugs in the Midst of a Pandemic”, Thursday (16/9).
During the event organized by the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Gathering (SAHI) and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Ma’ruf emphasized that the key to a successful drug eradication is good cooperation between the public and related institutions.
“Collaborative work between law enforcement institutions, education, religious affairs, and others will play an important and strategic role,” he added.
The Vice President also expressed appreciation to various parties who have jointly played an active role in fighting drug abuse.
“On this auspicious occasion, I’d also like give appreciation to SAHI, BNN, and all other institutions who have played an active role in making real and serious efforts to combat drug syndicates,” he said.
The Government, Ma’ruf continued, also needs to make the most of the potential of community organizations such as the SAHI as an effort to save the nation’s next generation from drug abuse because the they can reach out wider community.
“Now the SAHI has a special agency namely the Anti-Drug Society Movement (GAMAN) which is vertical from the center to the regions. The great potential of the SAHI must be utilized for the greatest benefit of the people and the nation,” Ma’ruf said, while expressing hope that this webinar can strengthen coordination and synergy between the Government and mass organizations.
VP also urged the participants to be able to formulate strategic measures in eradicating drug abuse during the pandemic and to provide input on government policies contained in the National Action Plan for the Prevention and Eradication of Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors ( P4GN) so that Indonesia can be free from drugs.
“May God support all our efforts to build a better nation in the future towards an advanced and prosperous Indonesia that is free from drugs,” Ma’ruf remarked.
