INDUSTRY.co.idJakarta, 30 November 2021 – PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk (MLBI), the producer of the iconic BINTANG and the world-renowned Heineken® beer, through its annual Public Exposé highlighted the importance of staying connected with its consumers and business partners as part of the strategy to drive business recovery, as shown in its improving performance during the first three quarters of 2021.

“2020 was an extraordinary year, where we all had to navigate a crisis with unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic, and hospitality was among the sectors that have been hit the hardest amidst significant restrictions. Despite this, our highest priority since the beginning of the pandemic until now remains the safety and wellbeing of our employees, customers, consumers and the communities around us,” said René Sánchez Valle, President Director of Multi Bintang Indonesia.

“We ensured timely introduction of innovative measures and technology at our workplace, combined with the implementation of strict COVID-19 protocols, both in our premises and our partner outlets,” he added.

The effects of the pandemic and associated restrictions were felt across the business, resulting in a 76% decrease in net profit for the full year 2020, compared to 2019. However, the Company has quickly adapted and put in place a new strategic framework to manage the crisis, putting people and innovation at its core and driving cost excellence to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the business. This was reflected in its 2020 Sustainability Report that was launched earlier this year, carrying the theme “Our People First”.

The new strategy has resulted in a significant improvement in the Company’s performance during the first three quarters of 2021, as the market continues its recovery from the effects of the pandemic, recording an increase of 169% in net profit compared to the same period last year.

Putting people first has also enabled Multi Bintang Indonesia to pursue its ambitions in sustainability, with continued collaboration with partners and communities to protect watersheds. The Company also continues to work on the roadmap to realise its target of 100% renewable energy use in production.

The Company is synonymous with its BINTANG brand and continues to lead its innovation agenda with the nationwide launch of BINTANG Crystal in July 2021. BINTANG Crystal is Indonesia’s first sessionable beer, offering a smoother and less bitter taste profile that is perfect for chill time.

To follow strict health and safety protocols, the new product was launched fully virtually through various digital activations and a wide digital sampling campaign.

“We continue connecting with our consumers and customers in meaningful, distinctive and responsible ways to stay relevant, while driving cost excellence to help us mitigate the impact of the pandemic. We are currently on the right track, and we are optimistic that the trajectory of economic recovery will continue in the coming year, on the road to pre-pandemic levels,” René emphasised.

This year marks Multi Bintang Indonesia’s ninety-year journey in Indonesia since it first began operation in 1931. In light of the current situation, the Company celebrated its 90th anniversary fully virtually, gathering its employees from across the country through a digital platform.

“We have been brewing enjoyment and pride for Indonesia for nine decades, and as we celebrate our 90th anniversary this year, we are proud to say that Multi Bintang Indonesia has come a long way to be a leading and responsible brewer in the country,” closed René.
