PKB Condemns the Ethnic Rohingya Humanitarian Tragedy

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Faction Ida Fauziah strongly condemns the Rohingya ethnic violence and tragedy in Myanmar but insists it is not an inter-religious war, but is part of a geopolitical struggle involving economic interests.

"Therefore we ask the people of Indonesia not to be drawn into religious conflicts, our Buddhist brothers in Indonesia are not guilty, even they also condemn the tragedy," said Chairman of the Faction of the National Awakening Party (FPKB) Ida Fauziah in Jakarta, Saturday (2/9/2017)

Ida further confirms that his fraction strongly condemns acts of violence and repression perpetrated arbitrarily by the military and the Myanmar government against the Rohingyas. The humanitarian violence has left thousands dead, tens of thousands displaced and thousands of others experiencing various acts of violence, rape, and others.

"FPKB DPR RI appealed to the government of Myanmar and other countries that have economic interests in Myanmar to better place humanitarian interests above economic interests and control of natural resources," she told the media crew.

Only by putting forward the human dignity, Ida added, then Myanmar could be spared the "resource curse" that sacrificed its people.

FPKB also affirmed the humanitarian tragedy that befell our Rohingya ethnic brothers in Myanmar seizing the international attention. Not just this time, the Myanmar military has carried out brutal acts against ethnic minorities in the Rakhine region since the last few years.

"FPKB DPR RI urges the Indonesian government, based on the constitution, to take firm action and establish effective diplomacy to stop the crimes of humanity, either through UN or ASEAN," she said.

This, Ida added, is because only Indonesia has the potential to pioneer the settlement of this problem, because of its position which tends to be neutral in the geopolitical scene in the ASEAN region.

"FPKB DPR RI invites all components of the nation and the international community to strengthen the solidarity of humanity in order to relieve the burden and suffering of our brothers Rohingya. These required cross-organizational and cross-national synergy to launch humanitarian missions for victims of the humanitarian tragedy Rohingya.
