INDUSTRY.co.id - Sumenep - The government has finally decided the import of salt after anomalous weather at the beginning of the dry season this year resulting in limitation of salt stock. PT Garam as SOE gets the mandate from the state to import salt.

some time ago, PT Salt has imported salt from Australia as much as 75 thousand tons. PT Garam (Persero) began to distribute imported salt from Australia to a number of its business partners.

"Until now, about 15 thousand to 16 thousand tons of imported salt that we distribute, of course this is to form market psychology," said Director of Production of PT Garam (Persero), Budi Sasongko, Friday (15/09/2017).

Budi said, from 75 thousand tons of salt, 25 thousand tons we have contracted. "We distribute 15-16 thousand tons of salt, with prices ranging from Rp 2,250 to Rp 2,500 per kilogram," Budi said.

According to him, the selling price of imported salt above Rp 2,000 per kg adjusts to the aspirations of the people's salt farmers. It does not want the price of people's salt dropped if imported salt sold cheaply.

"It is still the salt harvest season, so we do not want the people's salt farmers to be harmed by imported salt, one way is to sell imported salt at a price above the salt of the people," he explained.

He made sure to distribute all salt that PT Garam had imported to its business partners before the rainy season.

"In order to stabilize the price of this salt, it should be sold, especially if we are a corporation, if it is not sold before the rainy season, it will become idle stock or unemployment stock that harms the company," he explained.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Salt Society Association (AMG) Sumenep, Ubaidillah, appreciated the efforts of PT Garam to sell imported salt at a high price, to protect the salt farmers.

"We did request that PT Garam sell imported salt at a price above Rp 2,000 per kilogram so that the price of people's salt will not fall, thank God our aspirations are heard, and PT Salt sells imported salt at a price above the salt price of the people," he explained.
