INDUSTRY.co.id - Sumenep - PT Garam (Persero) is targeting production of 400 thousand tons of salt by 2018.
"The target is assumed to be normal weather, meaning there is no weather anomaly as happened in the past two years yesterday," said President Director of PT Garam, Budi Sasongko, Monday (23/10/2017).
According to Budi, there are three scenarios of the season that affect salt production targets, ie abnormal weather, normal half-weather, and normal weather.
"The 400 thousand tons figure is a projection if there is no rain during the production of salt, both for consumption and industrial needs," explained Budi.
Budi said that the current land area managed by PT Garam is around 5,600 hectares. The land is located in Madura, namely Sumenep, Pamekasan, and Sampang, and in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
"But for the wetlands we use for salt production of 4,500 hectares, the rest will be supporting facilities such as offices, warehouses and roads," he said.
He hopes that more salt land will be managed by PT Garam. In 2018, there is a new land that is done in Kupang.
"If the land area is growing, our expectation is of course not only 400 thousand production, but can be increased to accelerate the government's desire to self-sufficiency in salt," he said.
