Number of Train Passengers in October 2017 Rose 7.91%

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The number of train passengers in Java and Sumatra departing in October 2017 was 35.1 million people, up 7.91% compared to the previous month.
"The number is mostly 28.7 million Jabodetabek (KRL) passengers," Suhariyanto, Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), said at a press conference at BPS Head Office, Jakarta, Monday (04/12/2017).
He added that the increase in the number of passengers occurred in the Greater Jakarta area of 9.97%. In contrast, the non-Jabodetabek and Sumatran Java areas decreased 0.52% and 0.87%, respectively.
"The new route of KRL Jakarta Kota-Cikarang affects the increasing number of train passengers in Jabodetabek," he explained.
Cumulatively, the number of train passengers during January-October 2017 reached 322.1 million people, up 11.08% compared to the same period in 2016.
"The increase in the number of passengers occurred in all areas of Greater Jakarta, Java non-Jabodetabek, and Sumatra," said Suhariyanto.
Meanwhile, the number of goods transported by trains in October 2017 was 4.1 million tons. Some of the goods transported are recorded in the region of Sumatra as much as 2.9 million tons.
During the period from January to October 2017, the number of goods transported by trains reaches 35.6 million tons, up 23.69% over the same period in 2016.
"The increase occurred in non-Jabodetabek and Sumatera Java areas respectively by 14.11% and 27.99%," he concluded.
