Chemical Emergency Response is an Important Process of Industrial Policy

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Chemicals is a strategic material that has important value for every aspect of life, from the transportation of distribution, production, to the circle economy.

This was stated by the Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto when giving a speech in the Socialization of Emergency Relief Regulation of Chemical Regulations in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/12/2017).

According to him, it encourages chemicals to be handled that can minimize risks such as fire, explosion, irritation, and environmental pollution.

"This activity is part of an important process in making industry policy, where security, health and safety (K3) are the main factors to support the industry's performance," Airlangga said.

He added that the Ministry of Industry is responsible for this matter which should be facilitated by a regulation which to maintain industry performance and can boost the performance and competitiveness of the industry.

Furthermore, he said, the spread of chemicals in Indonesia need control and supervision from the government to prevent the occurrence of incidents that harm humans.

"The company is required to maintain safety and security in the work environment, and the government will follow up the matter through ministry regulations, especially on chemicals," he explained.

As is known, control of chemical hazards concerns risk management and emergency response procedures. Risk management activities play an important role in the prevention of accidental releases and chemical emergencies.

"Therefore, socialization is needed to the stakeholders to prevent incidents that harm human, while maintaining performance of national industrial competitiveness," he concluded.
