President of Indonesia Joko Widodo inaugurated two Gas Engine Power Plants (PLTMG) located in two districts in Papua Province, Wednesday (20/12/2017).

PLTMG Nabire has a capacity of 20 MW and is located in Kalibobo Village, Nabire District, while PLTMG Jayapura has a capacity of 50 MW and is located in Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, Papua Province.

Meanwhile, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Rini M. Soemarno said the government is present to provide support for the people of Papua, especially in areas that are still experiencing electricity crisis.

Electricity is a basic need of society. The presence of two PLTMG is certainly very beneficial for the people of Papua. The government will continue to encourage and optimize the potentials and sources of electricity in each region so that people in the area can enjoy electricity and get justice. I hope these two projects can run on time and operate according to the set targets, he said.

PLTMG Nabire stands on an area of 2 Ha and is designed to operate with two types of fuel: High Speed Diesel (HSD) and Gas. Fuel consumption is projected at 77 Kilo Liter (KL) / day (HSD) and 2,633 Million British Thermal Units per Day (MMBTUD) when using Gas. Using HSD fuel, this electricity project will save about Rp93 million per day. Meanwhile, if using gas fuel, savings will increase to Rp158 million per day.

The presence of PLTMG Nabire will also add to the Nabire system's 105% power system so that the system becomes more reliable, increasing the number of subscribers by 25,000, which in turn will also drive an increase in the electrification ratio.

The project contractor is a consortium of PT PP (Persero) Tbk, Wartsila Finland Oy and PT Wartsila Indonesia and is projected to absorb 479 workers. With the entry of electricity from PLPMG MPP Nabire of 20 MW, the Nabire electrical system can supply 42 MW.

Meanwhile, PLTMG Jayapura stands on tasa land area of 2.2 Ha and is also designed using two types of fuel that is HSD and Gas. Fuel consumption is projected at 198 KL / day (HSD) and 6,577 MMBTUD if when using Gas. The savings after the operation of PLTMG Jayapura is projected around Rp 220 million / day using HSD fuel and can reach about Rp 383 million / day when using Gas fuel.

The presence of PLTMG Jayapura will also add 60% of Nabire system's ability to make the system more reliable, increasing the number of customers by 62,000, which in turn will also boost the electrification ratio in Papua Province.

The project contractor is a consortium of PT PP (Persero) Tbk, Wartsila Finland Oy and PT Wartsila Indonesia and is projected to absorb 538 workers. With the entry of electricity from PLPMG MPP Nabire of 20 MW, the Nabire electrical system can supply 42 MW.
