Then, by 2015, imported products slumped by 40 percent from a year earlier, to 37 million units with a value of 2.3 billion US dollars. Meanwhile, mobile phone production in the country increased by 700 percent from 2014, to 50 million units for 23 local and international brands.
In 2016, mobile phone imports declined again about 36 percent from a year earlier, to 18.5 million units with a value of 775 million dollar. For mobile phone domestic production increased by 36 percent from 2015, to 68 million units.
"As a nation of Indonesia, we should be proud of mobile phone products produced by the domestic industry," said Airlangga.
In fact, the increasing capability of national mobile phone competitiveness, will strengthen the positive image and popularity of these products in the eyes of domestic and international consumers.
Mobile phone industry (mobile) in the country experienced a rapid growth in production numbers over the last five years. This is not apart from the government's efforts to spur development in the telecommunications and informatics (telematics) sector.
