President Jokowi Emphasizes the Importance of Caution against Cyber Attack

INDUSTRY.co.id - Singapore- President Joko Widodo stressed the importance of vigilance against cyber attacks in the presence of leaders and heads of ASEAN countries who attended the 32nd ASEAN Summit in Singapore.
Speaking at the 32nd ASEAN Summit Plenary Meeting at The Singapore Palace, Friday night (27/4/2018) President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the need for closer cooperation in the realm of digital technology and cyber security between ASEAN member countries.
"We know there is abuse of personal data from Facebook users, and in ASEAN we need to ensure that the framework of cyber security also includes the protection of personal data so that cyber cooperation is a must," he said.
In addition, President Jokowi said that the potential of ASEAN in the field of "e-commerce" is very large. According to him, in 2025 ASEAN internet users will increase 3-fold to 600 million.
"Expenditure of 'e-commerce' is projected to reach nearly 90 billion US dollars and total internet-based economy will reach 200 billion US dollars," said Head of State.
Therefore, the ASEAN region is deemed necessary to establish closer cooperation among ASEAN member countries in the development of cyber security policies and capacity building initiatives including through the ASEAN Cyber Capacity Program, the AMCC and the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Center.
In the statement of the heads of state and ASEAN leaders on cybersecurity cooperation, among others, it is mentioned the need for ASEAN member countries to implement measures and efforts to build self-confidence and adopt general, voluntary, non-binding norms of public behavior in order to apply responsibility in cyberspace so as to increase trust and confidence in the use of cyberspace for economic and integration purposes.
It emphasizes the benefits of dialogue and cooperation on cyber security issues with dialogue partners, other parties, other platforms led by ASEAN member countries including ARF and ADMM-plus.
Also present to the President in the plenary session was Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
