INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Minister of Industry (Menperin) Airlangga Hartarto said the Indonesian government is implementing the strategic steps set based on the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap, one of which is that Indonesia must be able to build a national manufacturing industry that is globally competitive by applying sustainability standards.
"We need to use Fraunhofer, a research institute in Germany, to develop a single type of alga that can convert POME to gasoline," Airlangga said in an official statement. Jakarta, Sunday (6/5/2018).
He said the discovery could reduce vehicle emissions and reduce the dependence of imports of fuel oil (BBM).
This is in line with the program initiated by the Ministry of Industry, the low carbon emission vehicle (LCEV) to encourage the automotive industry in Indonesia to produce environmentally friendly vehicles.
"Research on this biofuel must be done, because Indonesia is one of the largest palm oil producers in the world, we also have seaweed, both of which are being conducted research," he explained.
National oil and gas (oil and gas) production continues to decline as Indonesia's oil and gas reserves depletion and lack of exploration activities in the country.
Data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that the national oil reserve is only about 3.3-3.6 billion barrels.
"So with an average production rate of 275-288 million barrels per year, if not found new oil reserves then this oil reserves will be exhausted in 12 years," said Minister of Industry.
