INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The Chairman of the Golkar Party Electoral Commission Election Melkias Marcus Mekeng said all the cadres of Golkar East Indonesia wanted President Joko Widodo to appoint Golkar Party Chairman Airlangga Hartarto as his vice presidential candidate.
"We hope it will be set soon so that the party machine can work immediately so that the couple's socialization can also be done earlier," said Mekeng contacted by media crew in Jakarta on Sunday (5/27/2018)
Mekeng said Airlangga is the right figure to accompany Jokowi. According to him, the Minister of Industry is considered to have a lot of experience both in legislative, executive and as entrepreneur.
He explained that the determination of Airlangga as vice president is logical, because Golkar is the party winning the second election in the 2014 Election with a vote of 14.5 percent, so it is worth getting a ticket vice president.
Another reason, Mekeng said, is the public pressure especially in the stronger East Indonesia that wants Airlangga as a vice president.
"In every visit in the eastern part of Indonesia, they want Jokowi-Airlangga to be paired because they are proven to work together as shown in the Working Cabinet," Mekeng said.
Mekeng said East Indonesia was the main base of the Golkar Party. He emphasized that all Golkar cadres in East Indonesia view Airlangga worthy of supporting Jokowi.
He believes the determination of Airlangga as a vice president can improve Jokowi's electability. He is also optimistic this couple can win the 2019 election next.
"We believe Pak Airlangga is the most appropriate figure, therefore we encourage him," said Mekeng.
