Mask Development Product during Covid19

INDUSTRY.co.id - Started from China in October 2019 Coronavirus has infected and spread to all the world. At the first some countries had locked down their countries to stop the spread of coronavirus, but it cannot stop spreading. Until The World Health Organization declared this coronavirus as world pandemic, and then they started to announce the New Normal Era to the world. Where in the New Normal Era the human life and thinking has changed to become more attention and care about the healthy like use mask, wash and clean the hand periodically etc. One of the goods that become so critical and important is mask.

Initially mask is only used in medical world, people who still sick like influenza, cough. But now every country in the world people wears masks to protect from coronavirus infection.

There are some kind of masks that could be used and recommended to protect from spreading of coronavirus such as Fabric Masks (which is made by 3 layer namely a waterproof non-woven layer in the front, microfiber melt-blown non-woven fabric in the middle and ordinary non-woven fabric in the rear), Surgical Masks 2 Ply, Surgical Masks 3 Ply, N95 Masks, Reusable Face piece Respirator etc.

Authors from some countries have made a product development for masks, in order to people who use masks become more comfortable and have some other benefits and value.

One of the author is in the Israel Institute of Technology has developed masks that can be cleaned and reused by using an electric current using a phone charge. That masks able to destroy pathogens that may accumulate on the surface of the mask.

Massachusetts Institute of technology and Harvard University has also make development in mask. Some researcher in that university still develop mask that can be used to detect coronavirus. The mask can give fluorescence signal when someone who has infected by coronavirus breathes, sneezes or cough.

In japan they made a smart mask that could connect to smartphone or tablet by Bluetooth and then can translate the voice to some languages and also can make the voice become stronger and louder than the original voice.

In Indonesia also by LIPI has tried to develop a mask with copper layer to avoid corona infection. Now most of Indonesian society are using cloth or fabric mask where mask pore is not good enough to protect from coronavirus, so that they think to add copper layer in the mask. Virus is able to survive on various surfaces, but according to research ‘Copper Tolerance and Virulence in Bacteria’ Copper (Cu) has been famous as antimicrobial agents since Ancient Egypt and Greece era for caring a wound and water sterilization. Cu ions which are easily released cause damaged to cell walls and DNA degradation of virus so it cannot reproduction.

Process to develop the function of a product and also add the other function to the product that are parts of product development method. According to Irawan and Wijaya (1996, p97) Product development is kind of effort which is planned and done consciously to develop the existing product or add a various kind of that product that is produced or offered.

By increasing the development of masks it can make the society become convenient and safe in using masks to protect their body from corona virus that until now have not found for vaccine in the world.
