INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The government diverted aid to ethnic Rohingyas originally stored in the Bangladesh region to Myanmar's territory, said the head of Disaster National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Willem Rampangilei.
Willem in Jakarta, Tuesday (19/09/2017) said that currently 78 tons of aid has accumulated in Coxs Bazar, Bangladesh. Help consists of food, blankets, tents, and more.
On the basis of that, he said the government is seeking the transfer of humanitarian aid "government to government" directly to Rakhine State, Myanmar.
The Foreign Ministry, he said, is seeking permission from Myanmar authorities to distribute the aid. Permission from Myanmar is one of them to get the authority of landing aircraft C-130 Hercules TNI AU in Myanmar area.
The aid to be distributed to Myanmar is a total of 20 tons consisting of tents, fast food for pregnant women and toddlers, medicines, water purifiers, and others.
Related to the supervision of the aid distribution, Intermanagement Ministry of Foreign Affairs Expert Staff Salman Al Farisi said the International Red Cross is the party that will oversee the distribution.
The International Red Cross itself is the only organization that gains access from Myanmar to distribute humanitarian aid to the Rohingyas. (Ant)
