INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres acknowledges the important role of the Indonesian government in addressing the humanitarian conflict and crisis in Myanmar.
Press release from the Indonesian Permanent Mission (PTRI) for the UN in New York received in Jakarta on Saturday (30/9/2017) stated that the UN Secretary General's acknowledgment was presented when the UN Security Council held a meeting to discuss the latest developments in Myanmar .
The meeting took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.
"I welcome the important role of Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi from Indonesia in this regard, and has encouraged an approach that is consistent with the three steps I have asserted, as well as those driven by many countries," UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said.
The UN secretary general also said that the situation on the ground has worsened since the attacks carried out by the ARSA group against the security forces of Myanmar.
For that, Guterres reiterated the three steps that the Myanmar government needs to take, namely to end military operations, open access to humanitarian aid, and return the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh to Myanmar.
The recognition of the important role played by the Indonesian government is not only conveyed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, but also by a number of other UN Security Council members, such as Britain and Sweden. In addition, Senegal and Kazakhstan also appreciate the role of ASEAN in seeking solutions to the Myanmar issue.
