US Dollar Appreciation, Rupiah is Negative Catalyst Earlier this Week

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Despite opening strengthened to 13,540 positions per US dollar; the rupiah exchange rate is expected to move weak on Monday (11/12/2017). That's because the appreciation of the US dollar is maintained after the publication of salary data in the US is better than previous estimates.
Nevertheless, the condition will strengthen the US government to take policy on raising the Fed's interest rate at this week's FOMC meeting.
On Friday 908/12/2017), the rupiah exchange rate closed at 13,545 position per US dollar. That is due to the positive catalyst of the decline in foreign exchange reserves. Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that foreign reserves until the end of November 2017 was recorded at US $ 125.97 billion, down US $ 580 million compared to the previous month.
"From the report, the analysts concluded that the appreciation of the rupiah was helped by the intervention of Bank Indonesia," said Faisyal, money market analyst at PT Monex Investindo Futures in Jakarta, Monday (11/12/2017).
On Friday, the US Labor Department reported that the domestic economy hit 228,000 workers in November 2017. That number exceeded market forecasts for growth of 200,000 workers.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate held at 4.1% for the second month in a row. Optimistic employment data kept market expectations for interest rate hikes at the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting this week.
In today's trading, the rupiah exchange rate has the potential to move between 13,530 - 13,560 per US dollar. If it weakens and reaches above 13.560, then the rupiah will potentially weaken further to 13,575.
"In the meantime, if it can strengthen down levvel 13,530. Then the rupiah exchange rate will continue to strengthen to reach Rp13.510 per US dollar," added Faisyal. (Abraham Sihombing)
