INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to spur the domestic industry to further develop innovations that encourage the role of companies to improve the environment to improve the quality of life of the community.
"Industry players are required to actively and wisely use environmentally friendly resources and technologies to create effectiveness and efficiency for the sustainability of their business," said Minister of Industry (Menperin), Airlangga Hartarto in Jakarta (21/12/2017).
Therefore, the social aspect of the company's business can not be separated from sustainable development. "So, not merely based on the economic aspect, but also must weigh the social and environmental impacts for both short and long term," he said.
Menperin optimistic, the application of green industry principles through production efficiency and increased effectiveness of the use of natural resources, will improve the performance and growth of the industrial sector.
"Currently, green industry has become a market demand as the market awareness of environment sustainability and sustainable development," he explained.
Furthermore, the development of green industry encourages the industry to transform towards innovation-based industries that are tough and highly competitive.
"In the midst of this improved national economic situation, the growth rate of the manufacturing industry in the third quarter of 2017 reached 5.49 percent, exceeding the economic growth of 5.06 percent," Airlangga said.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of Ministry of Industry, Haris Munandar said, the application of the concept of green industry brings a positive impact to the company.

Based on data from industrial companies that have participated in the Green Industry Awards program, in the last three years, there is an energy savings equivalent to Rp2.8 trillion per year and water savings equivalent to Rp96 billion per year.
The contribution comes from 34 industries from the cement sector, fertilizer, iron steel, ceramics, pulp and paper, sugar, and textiles.
"Given the savings in energy use, this will also help Indonesia's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent, or 41 percent with external assistance by 2030," he concluded.
