INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Indonesia's automotive sales throughout 2017 reached 1.80 million units. The figure is up 1.6 percent compared to 2016 which only reached 1,063,000 units.

"Despite the small 1.6 percent, we would be grateful to grow in the years ahead with so many challenges," said Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), Yohanes Nangoi in Jakarta, Tuesday (6/1/2018).

However, Nangoi continued, from the growth there is one encouraging indication that the growth of commercial vehicles. Based on GAIKINDO data, commercial vehicle sales figures grew by 45 percent in 2017.

"Throughout 2017, commercial vehicle sales reached 80 thousand units, while in 2016 it only reached 59 thousand units, indicating that the Indonesian economy is improving," he explained.

According to him, the growth of commercial vehicle sales is also influenced by the increase in coal and other commodity prices such as oil palm so the demand continues to increase.

Furthermore, Nangoi hopes the growth of commercial vehicle sales can be accompanied by sales of regular passenger vehicles. "After a good growth in commercial vehicles will usually be followed also by regular passenger vehicles," said Nangoi.

Nangoi hopes that by 2018, which will also enter the political year, the sales growth of the national automotive industry will increase significantly.
