INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas continues to strengthen integrated fire management strategy and Village Makmur Peduli Api (DMPA) program. This is done in an effort to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla) in the concession area of raw materials supplier APP Sinar Mas.
In addition, the Company also supports the target of Indonesia's President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, namely zero fire and haze before and during the Asian Games 2018, which falls to coincide in the dry season this year.
APP Director Sinar Mas Suhendra Wiriadinata said APP Sinar Mas as part of the nation's component is proud to support Indonesia in the success of the 2018 Asian Games for the second time in Indonesia.
"Not only through the support of sponsorship as an official partner of the Asian Games, but also through the contribution in preventing and tackling karhutla before and during the Asian Games take place." Suhendra said through an official statement received INDUSTRY.co.id, Thursday (26/4/2018) .
Up to 2018 APP Sinar Mas invests more than US $ 100 Million for prevention and mitigation of karhutla, plus an investment of US $ 3.8 Million devoted to preparing ahead of and during the Asian Games lasting from May to October 2018.
APP Sinar Mas also continues to coordinate and cooperate with other relevant authorities and stakeholders to prevent and handle karhutla throughout the operation area. This is in line with APP Sinar Mas forest protection commitment set forth in the Forest Conservation Policy (FCP).
"APP Sinar Mas applies four pillars of Integrated Fire Management, Prevention, Preparation, Early Detection, and Quick Response. The synergistic and integrated management of karhutla is one of the main priorities of APP Sinar Mas in maintaining forest sustainability, "said APP Data and Information Technology Manager Sinar Mas Gustaf Rantung.
In addition, APP Sinar Mas also initiated the Village Makmur Peduli Api (DMPA) program, which is an effort of community empowerment combined with the conservation of nature and the surrounding environment.
Through this program, communities are directed to manage agroforestry by cultivating horticultural crops (vegetables and fruits), food crops, livestock, fisheries, and processed food for self-consumption or sale.
APP Sinar Mas facilitates this from upstream to downstream, ranging from the provision of tools, seeds, assistance, to help market the product. The program is targeted to 500 villages by 2020 around and within the concession area of APP Sinar Mas suppliers by channeling revolving funds worth US $ 10 million.
Head of Corporate Social and Security APP Sinar Mas Agung Wiyono explained, DMPA program which was first initiated at the end of 2015 has now reached 191 villages spread across Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, East Kalimantan, and West Kalimantan. As of March 2018, beneficiaries of the DMPA program have reached 13,814 Family Heads.
"In addition to preventing karhutla, DMPA also aims to build harmonious relationships with communities within the region or around the concession by helping to increase income and food, building market partnerships, transferring technology, and preventing conflicts and forest fires, and preserving the surrounding forests his village, "Add Agung.
