Encourage Financial Literacy, HSBC and Sampoerna University to Conduct Lecturers and Students Education

INDUSTRY.co.id - Yogyakarta - Bank HSBC Indonesia and Putera Sampoerna Foundation (PSF) through Sampoerna University (SU) reiterated its commitment to strengthen education and financial literacy, particularly in Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas.
Seminars and workshops entitled "Strengthening Tripartite Synergy for Higher Education for Development" were held for three days from 2nd - 4th May 2018.
This educational initiative targeted lecturers and students, who are important change agents in HSBC Indonesia's financial education mission with PSF and SU.
Nuni Sutyoko, Head of Corporate Sustainability at HSBC Indonesia, said that he hopes academicians can accelerate their knowledge and knowledge so that they can contribute more significantly in responding the educational challenges and financial literacy in their respective regions.
"Especially in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, which is known as a student city and one of the education centers of Indonesia," said Nuni through an official statement received INDUSTRY.co.id, Sunday (06/05/2018).
He also added that this is a reflection of HSBC's commitment to continuously promote sustainable business by building social, environmental, and economic communities wherever HSBC is located.
"Hopefully this initiative can create a domino effect on the people, which in turn can help community empowerment as well as contribute to the economic acceleration," explained Nuni.
Meanwhile, Wahyoe Soedarmono as Project Manager of HSBC-PSF Cooperation Program as well as economist from Sampoerna University explained that the strategic cooperation between HSBC, Putera Sampoerna Foundation and Sampoerna University brings the value of tri dharma higher education, research and community service, education and financial literacy as a whole.
"There are three main focuses to be achieved from this educational program. First, improve the knowledge and financial ability of students in building a career in the future, to become a strong professional in facing global challenges, "he said.
Second, Wahyoe continued, maximizing the transfer and update of knowledge in finance and banking through research and publication by academics. And lastly, support local entrepreneurs to be able to manage financially better business.
"We hope with a holistic approach, it can help the government targets related to increased literacy and financial inclusion," he said.
In this workshop, Sampoerna University American College CEO Lauren E. Clarke is present as a guest lecturer to provide students with exposure to knowledge related issues in the field of national and global finance.
"Hopefully this will inspire the youth of Yogyakarta to be more active to improve their international competence and insight, so that they are ready to face and adapt to the global challenges," Wahyoe added.
This workshop is part of a series of banking and financial education programs that are the result of cooperation between HSBC and PSF which has been held since 2015. The parties involved in this seminar, among others, Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, STIEBBANK Yogyakarta, Office of Financial Services Authority (OJK) Yogyakarta, Sleman Regency Government and Yogyakarta Regency Government.
The workshop was held for three days at Muhammadyah University Yogyakarta and STIEBBANK Yogyakarta, with three main materials discussed, including guest lecture for students, research workshops for lecturers, and lectures and financial and business management practices.
