BI Claims False Ratio Down

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Bank Indonesia claims the ratio of fake rupiah currency circulation until the third week of Ramadhan, May 2018, has dropped to three pieces of counterfeit money on one million pieces of original money.
The ratio is less than in Ramadan 2017 which as many as nine pieces of counterfeit money on a million pieces of genuine rupiah.
"Why the decline? Because BI strengthen coordination with law enforcement to provide a deterrent effect to the counterfeit money, we want to take firm action," said Deputy Governor of BI Rosmaya Hadi in Jakarta, Wednesday (06/06/2018).
As a result, said Rosmaya, during the three weeks of Ramadan this year, the Central Bank has not received a report from the Police and the public related to the circulation of fake rupiah money.
Executive Director of BI's Money Management Department Suhaedi added that the number of counterfeit money circulation has dropped dramatically in the past three years, especially in areas prone to counterfeit currency such as Java. By 2016 the ratio of counterfeit money is 1:13, and then decreases in 2017 to 1: 9, and now 1: 3.
"The results of coordination with the Police, after strong law enforcement, the ratio continues to decline, the end of 2019 is still 1: 9, now it is 1: 3," he said.
In addition to strengthening coordination with law enforcement officials, the level of public knowledge related to counterfeit money is also increasing. One of the socialization to guess the authenticity of money by being seen touched and looked at.
In this year's Ramadan and Idul Fitri, the Central Bank prepares cash requirements of Rp188 trillion, up 15.3 percent compared to the same period in 2017 of Rp163.2 trillion.
BI appealed people to exchange new money for the needs of the celebration of Lebaran on the place or official booths prepared by BI and also banking, in order to avoid counterfeit money and also the burden of fees for the exchange.
There are 2,076 currency exchange points from BI and banks spread throughout Indonesia. The location of the exchange can be found in the cash office of BI, banking office, or public places such as the National Monument in Jakarta.
